The Nanukuloa rugby side pipped Vatukoula 11-10 to secure their first win in the Vodafone Vanua Championship at the Saivou District School, Ra yesteday.

What happened: The hosts started well with a 3-0 lead from a penalty kick by Saula Lavetia. Vatukoula replied in the 20th minute through a try to captain Joeli Cama to lead 5-3 but Laveita kicked over his second penalty just before haltime.

Halftime: Nanukuloa 6-5 Vatukoula.

Both teams gave their all in the second spell as they scored a try apiece.

Big Play: In the 54 minute when outside centre Epeli Batiniu scored their second try and Vatukoula replied with a try to Viliame Vakamoce in the 74th minute.

Comments: Match commissioner Mosese Dokonivalu said: “Both teams played well and it was a very tough game.

“The only area that need to be fixed is the discipline of the players.”
