SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka has cleared the air on the controversy surrounding a trip to the United States of America two weeks ago.

Concerns were raised by the members of the party in the USA and in Fiji as to whether it was really necessary for Mr Rabuka and party General Secretary Adi Litia Qionibaravi to go or an email could have been sent thanking the SODELPA USA for their contribution of $135,000.

Speaking to the Fiji Sun, Mr Rabuka said, he was directed by the party president Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu to personally go to the USA to thank the supporters and also to attend their Annual General Meeting.

“I went to thank the group, I was sent by the president of the party, and I also attended the AGM on their request,” Mr Rabuka said.

He was accompanied by Adi Litia .

Adi Litia said people had different viewpoints.

She said the trip was to personally thank the SODELPA USA supporters for their huge backing.

When questioned on the funds in the party account, Adi Litia said the sum of $135,000 that was contributed by the USA supporters hit their account on January 2, 2018.

According to the year ending December 31, 2017  audited account, there was a total of $74,881 in the party’s bank account.
