The Tazul Khan- captained Ba side were crowned winners of the 73rd Vodafone Muslim Interdistrict Championship at Prince Charles Park, Nadi yesterday.

They beat surprise finallists Maigania 3-2 on penalty kicks after both teams locked nil-all after two 10 minutes of extra spells.

Ba’s goals were scored by Mohammed Huzaifah, Imran Khan and Imraz Khan while Maigania’s goals came from Abdul Rahiman and Aiyaz Hussein.

Ba captain Tazul Khan said, “I thank the boys for a grand game and we were very focused as we knew that Maigania would be a different team altogether.”

Maigania captain Adeel Ali said: “It was do-or-die situation when it comes to penalty kicks but Ba was a stronger team. I thank the boys for playing their hearts out and to come this far.”

The tournament was organised by the Fiji Muslim Sports Association and games were postponed during the Easter weekend because of bad weather, which led to severe flooding.
