Defence lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo has requested the High Court in Suva to consider releasing his client on bail.

The accused appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe and was further remanded in custody.

He is charged with one count of rape where he is alleged to have unlawful carnal knowledge of a child under the age of 13 years old.

The incident allegedly happened on May 4, 2012 at a village in the province of Namosi.

Mr Vosarogo said there were four other accused persons in a separate file whose charges arose from the same facts as his clients’.

He said the other four men were bailed when the case was first called in the Navua Magistrates Court adding that the Prosecution had not objected to his client’s bail on the last mention date.

Justice Rajasinghe informed Mr Vosarogo to file a proper bail application which can then be considered by the State.

State lawyer Kimberly Semisi indicated that she had filed and served disclosures to the accused.

The case has been adjourned to May 4, 2018, to be called before Justice Daniel Goundar alongside the other four accused persons.
