Sentence Suspended For Labasa Labourer

A 49-year-old Labasa labourer had his sentence suspended by Labasa Magistrates Court yesterday.
Simione Rakadi appeared before Magistrate Cama Tuberi for one count of assault.
Representing the accused was Legal Aid lawyer Sharmila Devi.
It was alleged that the accused assaulted a man on June 12, 2014, after things allegedly started going missing from his home.
Ms Devi told the court that the accused was married, has three children and is the sole breadwinner for his family. He was remorseful and had promised that he would not reoffend again.
Magistrate Tuberi said he had taken into consideration the facts during mitigation and therefore sentenced the accused to six months imprisonment which was suspended for three years.
