Returning from New York later tonight, he will chair the meeting tomorrow.

The chairman of the Tailevu Provincial Council, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, will miss today’s first meeting session.

He has been attending a high-level meeting in New York, United States, on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace. He will return later tonight, and will chair the meeting tomorrow.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will open the meeting today at Nauluvatu Village, Nakelo.

Roko Tui Tailevu Iliesa Delasau said traditional Itaukei ceremonies of welcome by the people of Rara o Nakelo would be accorded to the Prime Minister before the opening.

After the opening, Mr Delasau said there would be a talanoa session with the PM, district representatives and the chiefs until 1pm.

At 2pm, the afternoon session will start with a vote by the district representatives as to who would chair the meeting because the council does not have a deputy chair.

The afternoon session will include presentations by Government representatives and other organisations.

On Friday, the meeting will be chaired by Mr Tudravu and all council matters will be discussed then. The council’s 2018 – 2019 Budget, Mr Delasau said would also be passed.

“There will also be a presentation from the Tailevu Holdings and a report from the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) Tailevu Yellow Ribbon Project Symposium that was held at the Novotel Suva Lami Bay in Lami on April 4, would also be tabled,” he said.

According to that FCS report majority of the inmates in the correction centres were from the province of Tailevu.

Mr Tudravu hopes the two-day meeting will be a fruitful one.
