I just keep asking God to bring my son safely back home.

For one year, 47-year-old, Viliame Nokati had been constantly kneeling in prayer and fasting asking God to protect his son.

His 24-year-old son, Republic of Fiji Military Forces Private Inosi Raivani, was among the first chalk of 28 military personnel who arrived in the country yesterday after serving one year on a tour of duty under the Multinational Force and Observers in Sinai.

“For one year I’ve been praying over my son because the situation he was in was very dangerous, which is a war zone. I would fast for him and just keep asking God to bring my son safely back home,” Mr Nokati said.

He has been a clergyman at Naseyani Village Methodist Church in Rakiraki over the past few years and he has four children.

Yesterday he was accompanied by his wife and children to welcome Private Raivani at Nadi International Airport.

“To see him today is one of the happiest moments for me. My wife and I were in tears when we saw him and the family just can’t wait to spend time with him,” he added.

“At times news have reached their home that the situation in Sinai was volatile.

‘At times people used to tell us that the situation is Sinai was getting worse, but that didn’t not stop me from believing that my son return home safely because the God I serve is a protector in times of trouble,” he added with tears in his eyes.

Private Raivani will spend some time with his wife, Tavaita Suvira, and one-year-old daughter, Lomani Annie Fenton, before he resumes work.
