Chiefs Pledge Support For Chairman Tudravu

The Tailevu chiefs have pledged their support for the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu as chairman of the Tailevu Provincial Council meeting.

Peni Sokia, speaking on behalf of the chiefs, told Mr Tudravu that they had faith in him and trusted that he would lead the council to help the people of Tailevu.

Mr Tudravu said he was blessed with the support of the chiefs and would carry out his duty diligently and faithfully.

He said the council would be guided with what the Prime Minister and the FijiFirst Government had set for them.

All council developments, he said would be aligned with the Government’s plan.

He reminded the delegates that they should be mindful of the fact the Government was providing funds for the council.

During his term as chair, Mr Tudravu aims to strengthen development in the province, prepare project papers and prepare district development plans.

Mr Tudravu said his chairmanship was not part of his future plans, but he accepted it because he was Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s choice.

2018 – 2019 Budget passed

The Tailevu Provincial Council unanimously passed its 2018-2019 Budget. The total budget passed was $276,178.68. From this amount $119,002.44 is for salaries of Government workers in the council and $157,176. 24 is for operation.

2018 Siga Kei Tailevu

This year’s Siga Kei Tailevu will be held at Korovou, Tailevu North.

Mr Sokia presented the report to the council yesterday on behalf of the committee.

He said $154,948.00 was collected last year. $61,979.20 (40 per cent) will be for the district share for Fijian Holdings, $61,979.20 (40 per cent) for education and $30,989.60 (20 per cent) for the Provincial Council.

The Siga Kei Tailevu this year will be from December 1 to 2.

Fiji Roads Authority submission

Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) representative Jese Morgan made a submission on what the FRA was doing in the Province.

Mr Morgan said FRA planned to erect new bus stops and road humps in front of schools and villages.

The members of the council were pleased with the presentation.

Tudravu thanks hosts

The chairman of the Tailevu Provincial Council meeting thanked Tui Nakelo for hosting the meetingat Nauluvatu Village.

They will leave the village today after a traditional presentation to the Tui Nakelo to thank the people for their hospitality.
