Teachers from 44 Catholic primary schools and 12 Catholic secondary schools from all over Fiji attended the conference with their families.

Fiji Catholic Teachers Association (FCTA) president Petero Salele Kubunavanua says the association was developing a spiritual method in addressing students’ behavioural problems in schools.

“We discussed this in last year’s conference, but this year we will be emphasising combating it from the spiritual aspect of it,” Mr Kubunavanua said.

“So teachers are coming in to build their spiritual level in this year’s conference.”

He said they would be looking in the direction of working on their own spiritual development and equipping them to address these behavioural problems of their students.

“This involves reading the Holy Bible where we can search and find these spiritual solutions and a way to tackle these existing problems, he said.

“It’s an innovative means since the abolishment of corporal punishment and so forth.

“So through faith we are thinking we can solve some of these problems because we are looking at it from the perspective of our faith and the child’s perspective of their faith as well.”

FCTA members are camping at the Saint Thomas Primary School in Lautoka for their 45th Annual FCTA Conference.

Teachers from 44 Catholic primary schools and 12 Catholic secondary schools from all over Fiji attended the conference with their families.

According to Mr Kubunavanua their week-long conference was focused on spiritual development and uplifting, sharing experiences, planning and working on methods to deal with problematic issues in their schools.
