A new housing development planned for Lovu seaside outside Lautoka will have individual lots completed with road, water and electricity.

This was confirmed by the Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Infrastructure and Transport, Parveen Bala yesterday.

The Minister visited the area on April 24 and revealed the Government’s plan to include the Lovu seaside area in the city boundary of Lautoka.

“Now we have a development lease for the particular area. We have been given five years to develop and it will be developed into fully serviced lots,” Mr Bala said,

“This means proper drainage and proper roads, proper electricity and proper water supply.

According to the Minister, the residents were happy to hear since they have been living there for over 40 years.

“In this way, all the promises were made; they were quite happy.”

The Minister had asked the residents that make up 400 homes to work with the engineering team deployed to the task.

“We have engaged consultants who will carry out the engineering plan for the particular area. I have asked the residents of Lovu seaside to work with the engineering team so we can have a successful subdivision,” he said.

“We need to do is to formalise the informal settlements and then extend the town boundaries. Town boundaries will be the final part.”

45-year-old Lovu seaside resident Gopal Krishna said the new development would be helpful in terms of security, accessibility and a better standard of living.

“With the new fixed roads, lamp posts, proper drainage and newly directed bus routes to the area, it will really mean a lot in terms of the security, accessibility and less prone to floods,” Mr Krishnasaid.

“We thank the Government for this initiative; it will really help many people here at Lovu seaside in Lautoka.”
