Republic of the Fiji Military Forces, Lieutenant-Colonel (Lt-Col) Viliame Draunibaka is aiming to carry out the role given upon him with discipline and integrity.

Originally from Lasakau Village in Tailevu, the 43-year-old will be the commanding officer 2FIR for the 37th Battalion of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) in Egypt, Sinai serving under the Multinational Force and Observers group (MFO).

His term will end in April 2019.

Lt-Col Draunibaka has served in the RFMF for the past 23 years.

He was among a contingent of military personnel that left our shores for Sinai last week.

“My role is to lead all the officers, men and women for a one year period in Sinai while serving under the Multinational Force and Observers group. This task comes with managing and ensuring the task given from RFMF and MFO is executed to a professional standard,” Lt-Col Draunibaka said.

He added that 170 military personnel from Fiji will be under his leadership.

“I have a message for the mothers, fathers and wives, thank you for the role you will take up this one year, playing the role of both parents in the family while we are away, some families would sacrifice living without a father or mother for a year and we thank you.

“As the commanding officer I will try to give my best to make sure that these military men and women return safely to their respective families and loved ones,” Lt-Col Draunibaka said.

He said his task would come with a lot of challenges and also reminded all Fijian military personnel in Sinai that their role is to maintain global security with discipline and integrity.
