The following data is authorised for release by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and relates to the number of formal indictments (Information) filed in the High Courts of Fiji by the Director of Public Prosecutions throughout the month.

This data is confined to incidents of serious crimes other than sexual violence offences which are recorded and published separately.

This data also includes offences committed by Police officers.

Of the 39 people charged, two were Police officers. One officer is alleged to have assaulted his wife which occasioned actual bodily harm while another officer was charged for assaulting a fellow officer while drunk.

Of the 26, there were 3 incidents where the accused and victims were related to one another.

Two of these 3 offences were husbands allegedly assaulting their wives with intent to cause actual bodily harm while another husband was charged with disabling with intent to commit an offence.

Cash and assorted items ranged from $50 to $3,400 were stolen during the alleged aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary offences which consisted of home invasions, office and shop break-ins, vehicle break-ins, and daylight street robberies.

The assorted items stolen ranged from mobile phones, jewellery, alcohol, electronic goods and household items.

There was one incident of aggravated burglary and theft where five marijuana plants were stolen from the Police exhibit room.

Two cases were withdrawn after discontinuances (Nolle Prosequi) were filed due to the absence of the complainant and a change in the witness evidence.
