People are tired of worrying about their future. Worrying about short term contracts and whether it would be renewed. Knowing that it would make it difficult to secure a housing or car loan.

Worrying about where their next meal will come from because earning a little over $100 a week ($2.68/hr) full-time work is not enough. Not to mention the shame of asking friends and relatives for help.

Where is the dignity in that existence?

With so much uncertainty it’s easy to just sit back and think that nothing will change.

We shouldn’t have to worry about an uncertain future.

Let’s fight for a better one!

Let’s fight for a higher minimum wage rate of $4 that allows for human dignity.

Let’s fight for long term contracts and fair working conditions. This includes our national rugby sevens team that have brought us so much pride and yet are paid peanuts.

Let’s fight against tertiary loan schemes that leave more and more students in debt and without a job. Let’s fight instead for scholarships given to everyone and a robust curriculum that equips our graduates with the skills to make a positive impact in the workplace.

Let’s fight against nepotism and corruption.

Let’s fight for the independence and integrity of regulatory institutions that are currently functioning like an extended arm of the Government.

That fight starts with just one step and the belief that unity brings change.

We’ve seen it happen at the ATS march in Nadi, where more than 8000 people gathered and sang songs of freedom.

My hope and prayer is that as we move forward we’ll find the strength to fight for truth and justice in our beloved home.
