Caleb Puamau broke the 50metres freestyle record set by his father in 1989.

During the Swimming Grand Prix Three last month , Caleb broke his dad’s record of 31.98ses with a time 31.56 secs..

His parents are former national swimmers Peni and Caroline Puamau.

“Being raised by parents who were former swimmers, there was a lot of pressure for me to meet their expectation,” Caleb said.

“Breaking the record during the Grand Prix 3 2018 was not what I was expecting. But thanks to the support of my parents I was able to do that.”

Caleb was excited with his performance at the Fiji Swimming Long Course Age National Championship in the past two days

“I will be participating in the 50metres butterfly and 50m backstroke.

“So far I am happy with my performance.”

His mother Caroline was happy with her son’s performance.

“He is very committed with his training,” she said.

“As a mother and his coach, I’m happy for him.”
