Northland thrashed Naitasiri Bulls 46-17 at Naluwai in round two of the Vodafone Vanua Championship yesterday.

What happened: Naitasiri Bulls started strongly as they held Northland back with strong defence.

Piling on the pressure the Bulls scored the first try through Waisea Ralumu in the 21st minute converted by Viliame Kanatabua.

Kemueli Nairai and Marika Tuiverata scored for Northland while Kitione Rakasaka scored for the Bulls.

A penalty enabled the Bulls to lead 17-14 at halftime.

It was all Northland in the second half as they dominated and never allowed the Bulls to settle.

The team scored a try to first five-eighth Kemueli Nairai to narrow the deficit to 21-17.

Joji Sugaturaga of Naitasiri Bulls was yellow carded for dangerous tackle allowing Taniela Lawa to score in the 75th minute followed by Jese Tubunaruarua.

Comments: Northland coach Watisoni Ratulevu was happy with how the players fought back to win.

Ratulevu told the players at halftime to beef up defence and look after the ball.

“I am very proud of the win. There were a lot of it before our next game. They put us under a lot of pressure but we responded well.”
