Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has reiterated and issued a stern warning to the general public to respect the law and officers of the law.

This comes after a 25-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly attacking a Police officer based at the Sigatoka Police Station.

The incident happened at Nayawa Village on Friday last week when a 24-year-old Police officer with a team of officers chased the accused.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the suspect later surrendered himself at the Nadi Police Station on the same day.

“He (suspect) fled and jumped into the river after being chased by the team. The Police officer sustained injuries, which were a two to three-centimetre incision wound approximately one centimetre deep on his right hand above the elbow,” she said.

ACP Tudravu said officers being attacked or threatened during the execution of their duties would not be taken lightly.

He emphasised the fact that the Commissioner of Police would deploy the necessary resources and manpower to ensure those who do are brought to justice.

“If you want to attack Police officers who are simply doing their work in making your communities safe, keep in mind that we have the resources and capabilities to get to wherever you are,” ACP Tudravu said.

“Whether it is in the Southern, Western, Eastern or Northern divisions you should stand ready to face the consequences of your actions.”

ACP Tudravu is expected to visit the Police officer today.
