Naluwai is the breeding ground for rugby champions.

The most prominent ones are Naluwai natives Virimi Vakatawa and Noa Nakaitaci who were the first Fijians to represent France in 15s and sevens rugby.

Naluwai Village headman Penisoni Basalusalu said Vakatawa’s rugby career started at Naluwai when he attended Rara District School

Former Fiji reps from Naluwai include Ratu Siasi Vukitu, Voliasi Rokomaterua, Kaminieli Naviulaba, Noa Nakaucina, Seremaia Balenaivalu and Sakeo Ralawa who currently plays for an Australian club.

The ground at Rara District School started hosting provincial rugby matches in 1973.
