Shayal Prasad thanked her lucky stars because her graduation was two days short of Mother’s Day.

Ms Prasad was one of the 437 that graduated with her National Certificate Level 2 during the Technical College (Central) graduation at the FMF Gymnasium yesterday.

“I was so happy when I checked the calendar and found out that graduation was close to Mother’s Day,” an elated Ms Prasad said yesterday.

“I still have my grandmother with us and she has played a big role in our upbringing and she is here with me today,” she said.

“We will defer my celebration to Sunday now.”

Ms Prasad of Tokotoko Back Road, Navua said early morning rides to Suva to attend classes paid off.

“I had attended Vashist Muni College, it was close but travelling to Suva was new for me.

“My parents have always supported me, ever since I started with my course I promised myself that I would do them proud.

“I want to work in the tourism industry and this is the beginning of the many courses I will do.

Her mother Lina Prasad a supervisor took time off yesterday to see her eldest daughter graduate.

“I am so proud of her achievements. She has done well. We will hold onto the celebrations until Sunday when we celebrate Mother’s Day,” Mrs Prasad said.

“My mother is as elated to see her first grand daughter graduate. This is a special Mother’s Day for the family.

“My daughter always wanted to work in the tourism industry, with her certificate she can now go to another tertiary institute to get a higher level.”
