An accused person who escaped from the Suva Magistrates Court on April 24, 2018, was asked by a High Court judge why he did not go to the hospital during his escape.

Justice Daniel Goundar quizzed Emosi Baleidrokadroka yesterday after he requested a court order to be taken to hospital for a medical check.

Baleidrokadroka appeared alongside Varasiko Adrole and Joseva Rakai and complained of hand and knee injuries, which he claimed to have sustained from the Police station.

Justice Goundar said he was concerned with allowing Police officers to escort Baleidrokadroka to the hospital.

The prosecution was then ordered to inquire about the accused’s medical status, including that of Adrole and Rakai who also complained of injuries.

Baleidrokadroka then pleaded not guilty to separate aggravated robbery charges after requesting Legal Aid Commission assistance.

On the first file, he denied robbing Ulaiasi Naulutavuki on October 14, 2017, of an iPhone 4S worth $800.

On the second file, he pleaded not guilty to entering the Kinoya Car Wash and robbing Pita Cili of $130, cigarettes worth $140 and a Samsung J1 mobile phone valued at $129, to the total value of $399, the property of Pita Cili.

Justice Goundar remanded the accused in custody and adjourned his case to July 3, 2018, to check on his legal representation.
