Mereani Mocelutu described how celebrating her first Mother’s Day gave her a chance to reflect and to appreciate all the hard work and sacrifices that mums have gone through.

“Now being a mother I am beginning to understand just how it feels, experiencing it really makes me look back and also be grateful for everything my mother has done for me from my childhood days until now,” Ms Mocelutu said.

“So Mother’s Day this year is very special to me, because it is my first one and I get to celebrate it with all my family.”

She said during her younger days she thought what her mother was doing around the house was a normal, easy thing.

“But now having a baby of my own it really changes my perspective on things, especially on all the things each and every mum faces in managing the house and keeping everything in order. I really take my hat off to all the mothers out there.”

But what really made her Mother’s Day celebration special was what she described as a miracle journey during her pregnancy.

“At one point, my iron level was so low that I had to take injections every day for two weeks in order to get it back up. Then just a week before I gave birth I was admitted in the hospital,” Ms Mocelutu said.

“It came to a point when I was advised by the doctors that my baby was smaller than he was supposed to be because he was undersized and believe me it was a very trying experience for me, being a first-time mother.”

Despite all the medical complications she gave birth to her first-born son Joji Tawake (Jr) on February 11 this year.

She urged Fijians to learn to love, respect and appreciate mothers.
