Not many people know the sacrifices that football players and their families go through.

One such example is Marika Rawasoi of the Nadi football team who injured his leg when he was 13 years old.

It was Rawasoi’s parents Moape and Loami that nursed him back to health and allowed him to play the sport he loved.

The Nadarivatu native captained the Tavua side to the U14 Inter-District Championship in Labasa in 2012.

“I could not believe when the doctors told me that I could not play football anymore,”Rawasoi said.

“My parents looked after me, night and day, and with the help of traditional medicines and divine help I was able to recover.”

Rawasoi shared how he decided to shift from Tavua to Nadi in January to further his education and his career in football.

The 20- year old added despite all this he was happy he never gave up on his dream and is hoping to inspire other players in the country.

“Nadi football is assisting me since I will be starting school at the Fiji National University to study electronics,” Rawasoi said.

“Right now I am trying to adjust to their style of play.  This is whole new environment for me.”

Rawasoi’s best memory was beating Savusavu 3-0 in the final of the U15 IDC.

Rawasoi will be playing in his

First Vodafone Fiji FACT later this month.

“I am looking forward to the FACT and wearing the green jumper for the first time,”he said.

Rawasoi is also part of the Vodafone national football extended squad.

Nadi is Group B with Suva, Lautoka, Tavua and play their first match against Tavua at 1.30pm on May 25.
