Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea has reaffirmed that race has nothing to do with who gets Government help first.

Mr Vocea made the comment while addressing delegates and the Bua Provincial Council meeting at Nabouwalu.

This was after questions were raised in regards to the distribution of water tanks in the Northern Division.

A district representative asked during the meeting why Fijians of Indian descendent received tanks faster than the iTaukei.

Mr Vocea said all Fijians were treated equally.

“Race has nothing to do with who gets help first. When it comes to the distribution of tanks there are requirements that need to be met by you before tanks can be given,” he said.

“When people are not clear on what to do they can visit the offices of those who deal with the distribution of tanks or even call them up.”

Mr Vocea said when people got stuck they should not give up.

“All doors are open to all Fijians and I hope that is clear to everyone.”

Take advantage of Govt help

He encouraged those at Naulumatua house yesterday to take advantage of the help given by the Government.

This is the help that is given to the Northern Division after Tropical Cyclones Josie and Keni.

“The Government is doing its best to assist the people of the Northern Division after cyclones Josie and Keni,” Mr Vocea said.

Mr Vocea also said those caught lying in their applications would face the consequences.
