The partnership between Nadroga Rugby Union and Clermont Rugby Club in France has seen the birth of the Under 16 Rugby Academy in Sigatoka Valley Secondary School.

As part of their community project, a construction of a borehole and gym upgrades has started.

School manager Semesa Nabalagi said, “I’m grateful for the establishment of the U16 Rugby Academy which will be a breeding ground for the future rugby players.

“I’m convinced that in the not too distant future, some of the players from the vanua of Nahehevia will be playing for Clermont, Nadroga and Fiji”

He added it was an honour to receive the financial assistance for the development of the water project in the school.

“Water has been an issue. The school hopes the borehole will help ease the water problem that school faces,” he said.

The institution was established in 1950 as a primary school, junior secondary in 1972 and a secondary school in 2012.

The school is managed and owned by the vanua of Nehehevia which comprises 16 villages and few settlements.

Nadroga Rugby president Tiko Matawalu said, “We fully support the Physical Education, Music, Arts and Culture (PEMAC) department will facilitate the training programmes and development of players, discipline, safety, and general upkeep of the project.”

The school has produced national reps like Peceli Yato, Aisea Tuilevu, Peceli Nacebe and Semi Kunatani.
