The Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, who is currently in Bangkok, has held bilateral meetings with the Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, General Chaktip Chaijinda, at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters.

Discussions focused on the establishment of a formal Police co-operation initiative under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Royal Thai Police and the Fiji Police through the Ministry of Defence and National Security.

Given the increased exchanges between Fiji and Thailand in various sectors of development and trade, both Police chiefs agreed for a formal Police co-operation initiative to be pursued.

The Royal Thai Police Chief has encouraged the formalisation to reflect other areas of exchanges in training and people-to-people exchanges.

The Royal Thai Police is a key member of the ASEANAPOL and as the Fiji Police holds observer status, this initiative will be consistent with co-operation initiatives under the body.

Brigadier-General Qiliho also had the opportunity to hold talks with the heads of the Royal Thai Police Narcotics Bureau and the Royal Thai Police Education Bureau.

The Commissioner is being accompanied by the director international relations SSP Ulaiasi Ravula, Fijian counsellor at the Fijian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur Pita Tagicakirewa and PSO Inspector Aisake Kafoa.

Prior to visiting Thailand, Commissioner Qiliho and his delegation were in China, holding similar talks there.
