The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Land Force Commander Colonel Sapenafa Motufaga leaves Fiji next month to replace Colonel Manoa Gadai as defence attache at Fiji’s mission to the United Nations (UN) in New York.

Colonel Motufaga confirmed his posting when the Fiji Sun approached him at the opening of the Fiji-EU Third Enhanced Political Dialogue at Level 9 Suvavou House yesterday.

“I can confirm to you that I’m leaving for New York next month,” he said.

It is understood the posting is for three years.

As Fiji’s defence attache Colonel Motufaga’s role will also involve handling peacekeeping matters not only for RFMF, but also for the Fiji Police Force.

Colonel Gadai was appointed defence attache in 2015 while he was commanding officer (CO) of the Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR).

He was the first senior officer to be posted as defence attaché to New York.

Col Motufaga will be based in the office of Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Satyendra Prasad, based in New York.

Colonel Motufaga returned late last year from his studies at the National Defence College in India.

He hails from Mea, Hapmak, Itu‘ti‘u, Rotuma.
