It was a moment 20-year-old, Vilitati Kautoga will always cherish when he scored Tavua’s winner as they upset Nadi 2-1 in the Vodafone Fiji FACT opener at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports, Kautoga said it took him time to realise that he had just scored his first Fiji FACT goal in the 76th minute.

“I was really scared to be honest,” he said.

“While playing all I was thinking about that this was the final. This is the sport that I love and has been playing it since I was 16-years-old and I never thought that I would come this far.”

The Koroqaqa, Ba native said, this was all made possible through the endless support of his mother and grandfather.

“My mother is one who inspires me as she works in Suva. I was born and raised in Ba by my grandfather who is also my namesake.”

Tavua drew first blood in the 8th minute through a Vilive Naulalevu goal but Nadi fought back to equalise in the 35th minute when a Napolioni Qasevakatini strike found the back of the net as they were tied 1-1 at halftime.

Tavua coach Saroj Kumar was not carried away with the win.

“We’ve a lot of work to do. We will return to camp and look into the errors we made in today’s game.”

Nadi Football president Javed Ahmed said, Tavua played smart football and deserve to win.
