Cakaudrove scored an upset 16-0 win over Macuata in the Vodafone Vanua Challenge clash at Ratu Ganilau Park, Savusavu yesterday.

What happened: Cakaudrove took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd minute when Kitione Rami kicked over a penalty. Backed by their supporters Vilimone Dekei scored their first try in the 14th minute with Rami adding the extras.

Halftime: Cakaudrove 10–0 Macuata

Macuata came out firing but Cakaudrove held on with their defence. The game got scrappy at times and players were sent to the sinbin.

It was Rami who was on target as he converted two penalties for the much-needed win.

Comment: Cakaudrove coach Rayne Simpson said: “I’m happy at how the boys played today. We will try and reduce getting yellow cards either then that they played according to plan.

Macuata coach Sevina Nanuku said: “Despite the loss I’m happy with how the boys played. We will try to improve our game as we play Northland next week.”
