It was a good sporting day for the Suva yesterday – both in rugby and football.

In the Skipper Cup Premiership competition, the capital’s rugby team had all the odds stacked against them heading up to the highlands to face Naitasiri at the Naluwai grounds.

However, their determination saw them through and surprised the capacity crowd with a 29-21 win. The Suva women’s team (39-12) and Under-20 side (29-11) also recorded impressive wins in Naitasiri – an umprecedented clean sweep for any set of 3 teams from a single area, visiting the highlands. The win sees Suva maintain its lead on points in the Skipper Cup competition.

Meanwhile, the capital’s football team gave themselves a chance to stay competitive yesterday in the 2018 Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament.

Hopes are high as Suva secured a 1-0 win over Tavua at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park. They had lost 0-1 to Lautoka on Friday.

To qualify for a semifinal spot they will need to win against Nadi today.
