The Mission of Taiwan medical team, from Cathay General Hospital, are here again to assist those in need of medical attention and consultation for free.

The team has brought with them portable ear and cardiac machines, the area they will focus on in this visit.

The mission includes four doctors, three of whom specialise in ear, nose and throat (ENT), two nurses, one radiologic technologist and a co-ordinator.

They left for Labasa yesterday where they will offer medical assistance for a week and based at the Labasa Hospital.

Team leader, Dr Wen-Hung Wang said: “As a development partner of Fiji, Taiwan believes in assisting Fijian physical health. In previous years, we’ve also focus on the mental health area.

“Through providing assistance in various areas of health care, Taiwan hopes to play a role in promoting good health and healthy lifestyles, as well as strengthening the friendship between Taiwan and Fiji.

“Those who need this medical assistance should make themselves available at the Labasa Hospital.”

Fijian-based mission representative Filipe Hu said since 2014, over 10 Taiwan mobile medical teams comprising over 60 medical staff from the Cathay General Hospital have offered their medical expertise.

“In previous years they examined patients in Kadavu, Rakiraki, Ba, Tavua, Lautoka, Sigatoka, Korolevu, Lomawai, Cuvu, Labasa, Nabouwalu, Savusavu, and Seaqaqa. They have also examined and treated students of Marist Brothers High School and YatSen Primary School in Suva.”

The 2018 second mobile medical team from Cathay General Hospital are expected to come in October.

Cathay General Hospital is a private hospital based in Taiwan. It has conducted over 12,000 cardiology surgeries and has 98.5 per cent success rate since 1990.
