Three men alleged to have broken into the Koro Island Community Police Post appeared at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

The accused men; Apete Turagatani, Navitalai Loatuicama and Paula Vura appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar.

Turagatani and Loatuicama were represented by Legal Aid Commission lawyer Talei Kean, while Vura informed the court that he had yet to apply for Legal Aid assistance.

It is alleged that between January 13, 2018, and January 15, 2018, the three men unlawfully entered the Police Post with the intention to commit theft.

During the same period they were also alleged to have stolen five plants believed to be marijuana which was the property of the Fiji Police Force.

Turagatani and Loatuicama both pleaded not guilty to the charges while Vura pleaded guilty.

Vura informed Justice Goundar that he was pleading guilty of his own freewill.

Justice Goundar advised the Legal Aid lawyers who were present in court yesterday to advise Vura on his guilty plea and also on the next court procedures that would follow accordingly.

Bail for Turagatani and Loatuicama were extended while Vura was further remanded in custody.

The case has been adjourned to June 11, 2018, for the summary of facts to be read out in court by the state prosecution and for Vura’s mitigation.

Sentence hearing will also be held on that same date.
