Fiji Broadcasting Corporation lawyer Emmanuel Narayan made an application on Wednesday in the High Court before Master Vishwa Sharma to amend their statement of claim in their defamation lawsuit against the Fiji Labour Party (FLP).

Mr Narayan said they intended to amend the statement of claim on the grounds that FLP had made further postings on Facebook which they wanted to include in their claims.

Defence lawyer Dharmendra Kumar appeared for FLP and agreed to the amendment on the condition that FBC agreed to pay the costs of the amendment.

The case has been adjourned to July 2, to allow time for counsels to confirm payment of costs.

FLP made claims that FBC was unable to service its loan of about $21 million and that the chief executive officer had to turn to the Attorney-General “Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum” to “bail him out of this mess and the taxpayers got butchered in the process as an easy way was found to settle the matter.”

The statement of claims filed by Mr Narayan says the post was designed and engineered to cause damage to the plaintiffs.

He further states that as a result of the post, the plaintiffs were suffering grave reputational damage.

He says the CEO of FBC has been greatly injured in his character and reputation and had suffered hatred, ridicule and contempt.
