William Balebale Sau aim to win a medal at the National Schools Swimming Championship which starts today at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva.

The Nawaka District School head boy will be featuring in the 50 metres breaststroke, 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 4 x50m relay

“I took up the sport when the school first joined the competition last year,” Sau said

“Out of all the sports that I have been playing, I find swimming as a hobby and something that I really enjoy.

“My parents are looking forward to my performance and they are expecting me to bring a medal home.

“I have always looked up to my aunty who is now our swimming coach. I hope I will be like her in the future.

The Year 8 student hails from Nawaka and is the eldest of three siblings Semi Iliesa and Rosi

“My favourite event is the 50m backstroke. I like taking up this sport because it helps me to be physically and mentally fit.

Meanwhile, younger brother Semi, a silver medallist, from last year’s National Schools Swimming Championship is aiming for a gold medal this year.

He will be taking part in the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 4 by 50m relay

“Taking part for the second time I aim to better my performance. I will be aiming to win a gold medal,” he added.
