The deadly combination of Ratish Lal and Som Padiyachi gave Team Ba the edge to take out the pairs at the 11th Kontiki Finance/ Fiji Gas Sunny West Bowling Carnival at the Nadi Sports and Social Club yesterday.

Team Ba came from behind to upset Team Tamavua (Semesa Naiseruvati/ Litia Tikoisuva) 12-11 in the final.

“As expected it was supposed to be a tough final anyway,” Lal said.

“They were leading throughout the game but we did not lose hope and we talked it over with Som to keep fighting to the end and it paid off.

“They were up by one shot but it was determined in the last end.”

In the semifinals, Team Ba beat Tom McGoldrick’s team 18-4 while Team Tamavua beat Curtis Mar’s team whith Amanda Newton, daughter of national rep Doreen O’Connor 16-8.

In the plate final Team Permal edged out Sai Walker’s team 16-15 after they were tied 14-all after 15 ends.

Nadi Sports and Social Club president Bobby Prasad said there was an interesting clash in the overall carnival.

“It was an absolute success though we had two cyclones and a flooding this year,

“You can see smiles on our Fijian people. We thank everyone for coming to the event,” he said.

“The bowlers have started firing from day one. The green maybe not be fast as it is in overseas we are doing our best for all those competing and to enjoy this sports tourism event.”

Prasad also thanked the sponsors for making the event happen.
