The importance of having a library in any society was yesterday reiterated to participants during the Pacific Libraries Summit.

The summit was officially opened by the Permanent Secretary for Education, Heritage, Arts, Library services and National archives Alison Burchell at The Pearl Resort yesterday morning.

The summit culminated the first ever Pacific Libraries Vision and call to action to inspire Pacific collaboration in advancing the development of public library services.

The summit also aimed to build and strengthen a supportive network that will ensure public libraries are resourced and equipped to undertake their vitally important work in communities.

The summit was attended by various library stakeholders, leaders, practitioners, innovators and supporters from various governments, NGOs and international aid agencies.
