Seaqaqa man denies sodomy charge

Zoheb Ali of Seaqaqa pleaded not guilty to one count of rape when he appeared before judge Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Labasa yesterday.

The court heard that on March 7, 2018 in Seaqaqa the accused allegedly sodomised another man.

The accused was remanded at the Labasa Corrections Centre in Vaturekuka and will appear at the High Court in Labasa on June 22, 2018.

Accused told to bring lawyer to court

Tevita Rasuaki, who is charged with one count of attempted murder, has been ad­vised by High Court judge, Justice Daniel Goundar, to have his lawyer present when he next appears in court.

He appeared before Justice Gounder yes­terday.

The accused allegedly stabbed his cousin after an argument earlier this year.

The victim suffered a stab wound on the chest. Rasuaki was remanded at the Labasa Corrections Centre in Vaturekuka until his next court appearance on June 22, 2018.

Labasa man faces two counts of rape

A Labasa man charged with two counts of rape appeared before judge Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Labasa yes­terday.

It was heard in court that he allegedly raped two complainants earlier this year.

One of the complainant was his step-daughter while the other his niece.

The state prosecutor informed Justice Goundar that the victims witnessed each in­dividually witnessed each alleged crime be­ing perpetrated on the other complainant.

Justice Goundar issued a Domestic Vio­lence Restraining Order (DVRO) to the ac­cused and told him not to directly or indi­rectly contact the complainants.

The accused was further remanded at the Labasa Corrections Centre in Vaturekuka and his case adjourned to June 22, 2018.

Uncle denies four counts of rape

A 52-year-old Labasa man pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape at the High Court in Labasa yesterday.

He appeared before judge Justice Daniel Goundar. In court it was heard that the ac­cused allegedly raped his maternal niece from May 2017 to February 17, 2018.

The 15-year-old victim was a student and was staying with her uncle.

Justice Goundar asked the prosecutor why the victim was not living with her parents and was told that her father was deceased and her mother had remarried.

The accused was further remanded at La­basa Corrections Centre in Vaturekuka and his case adjourned to June 22, 2018.
