Merit based best

Sovaia Pace, Sydney

I have two young teachers in my family. With the Civil Service Reforms and focus on merit-based appointments, they know there is hope that they too will be in a position to lead a school one day.

It will be based on the hard work they do, and not because of who they know. Teaching is a very noble profession but it can all go downhill very quickly if cliques start dictating who does what.

Steady Ship

  1. Shariff Shah, Savusavu

Our good PM has hit the nail right on the forehead of Mr Rabuka and Mr Biman.

Mr Rabuka while at the helm….sank the ship in the Pacific. While Biman is yet to even enter the captain’s room…forget about holding the wheels.

Our late Archibishop….Mataca….was once questioned at the Solevu Catholic Church by a man.

This man asked the very humble Mataca …of which direction he should take. He couldn’t make up his mind. He was double minded.

He was born Catholic….but at 19 joined Every Home….then at 23 joined Souls to Jesus…..then at 26 came back and rejoined Catholicism…. he is not very sure as to how long before he switches again.

He was getting bored.

The ever humble Mataca said “when Jubilee (the then Patterson Brothers ship) leaves Nabouwalu Wharf for Natovi … will reach Natovi never mind what.

“During its journey it will face rough seas and heavy winds. But it will reach Natovi. You want to be on board or not is your choice.

“The ship won’t stop.. even if you want it to without any geniune reason.

You decide ….with or without you it will reach Natovi.

I see Rabuka as rough seas and Biman as heavy winds.

Mr Rabuka has sank the ship and must face the full brunt of the court martial(law)

Biman is a non issue.

To all those, like the above two, your days in politics are numbered.

If FijiFirst wins… which everyone knows they will hands down ….you all are history.

There won’t be any employment left …..just to plant and fish.

If you cant beat them, join them.

It’s up to our best PM …ever…to consider.

Baber’s Family

Dharmendra Kumar, Suva

Gareth Baber has proved that he is an exceptional sevens coach. Grabbing five World Rugby titles in the 2017/2018 season is no mean feat.

I feel that Gareth Baber is a great coach because he has a vision, sets a plan in place and has the right people in place to execute his plan.

The greatest thing about Baber is when things go wrong he accepts the criticism.

We the rugby sevens fans wish to learn more about Baber’s family.

I hope your paper will be able to carry a story on the family behind Gareth Baber’s success.

A family is a gift that lasts forever and despite Baber’s humility we know that his family is his strength.

Amenatave Yaconisau, Delainavesi

I fully agree with Nemani Delaibatiki’s article on ‘My say’ about parental responsibility (FS 4/6)

It may be true from a biblical perspective that we are living in the last days, one thing is clear that the family is a crucial socialising agency. It is very important and should impart the right attitude including obedience to parents, whatever the differences maybe. The educational system shouldn’t do everything alone, especially on obedience.

The family is the child’s first window to the outside world. Keep it safe and secure!

Best Coach

Sukha Singh, Labasa

Just wondering if Gareth Barber is the number one coach now?

Road Signage

Vijay Madhavan, Suva.
