Western Division Drainage Board (WDDB) chairperson Faiyaz Ali thanked the Government for accommodating their need for vehicles after receiving two Mahindra 4×4 Twin Cab four-wheel drive vehicles yesterday.

“Well I must thank the Bainimarama Government for giving us two vehicles because we are a new and young three-month-old ministry, that is the Ministry of Waterways,” Mr Ali said.

He said the inclusion of the new vehicles would greatly boost their operations in terms of enabling their ground workers conducting their inspections efficiently before payments to the various contractors who were issued contracts for drainage and other waterways works in the Western Division.

According to Mr Ali, the contribution made by the government through Car City and the Tappoo Group of Companies was something they had prayed for and it came in the form of two vehicles whose combined cost was estimated to be valued at about FJD$106,000.

“We have started good, from March to the end of May we received a grant of FJD$1.3million from the government of the day and we are very thankful for that.”

Tappoo Group of Companies Business Development Manager Motor Vehicles Mike Shaw said this was a good opportunity for them to work with WDDB.

“The importance of this handover is that we as the Tappoo Group and Car City are privileged to hand over these vehicles to the WBBD, for us this is a significant step for us to combine with a customer as the WBBD,” Mr Shaw said.

The handover was held at Sugar House in Lautoka.
