The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has been praised for its swift response in the treatment of an accident victim, Romeet Singh.

The wife of Mr Singh, Nikita Chand, 27, speaking on behalf of the Singh family, said: “Without the assistance from the Minister and her team, we would not have be able to see my husband recover well and get the right treatment on time.”

Mr Singh, 32, of Namata, Sigatoka, is a chef at Zipline Fiji in Sabeto, Nadi. He was rushed to Lautoka Hospital after sustaining serious injuries when the car he was travelling in was involved in a head-on collision at Wamalika in Sabeto, Nadi, on May 27.

Mr Singh suffered broken limbs and after a few days of surgery he was losing a lot of blood.

Ms Chand said she and the family were worried about Mr Singh’s condition and sought help from the Minister for Health, Rosy Akbar.

“We called Ms Akbar and within minutes we were assisted and my husband was airlifted from the Lautoka Hospital to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva,” Ms Chand said.

“We as Romeet’s family made a plea to save his life and it was heard, for which our family would always be indebted to the Ministry of Health.

“We thank and appreciate the assistance from Ms Akbar and Dr Vatuvatu for their vigilance and prompt response, so that he could receive good treatment.”

Mr Singh was airlifted to CWM Hospital last Monday and had a major surgery done on his left leg, which broke into four parts.

“We would also like to thank all the blood donors who responded in time, both in the Western and Central divisions.”

Mr Singh is recovering at the CWM.
