Following the positive feedback from the 91-member medical team that gave their service free in the Lomaiviti group last month Goundar Shipping owner George Goundar intends to provide the same to a part of the Lau group next year.

“We’re looking at the Yasayasa Moala group next year which includes Moala, Matuku and Totoya, possibly Cicia and Vanuabalavu also,” Mr Goundar said.

The Lomaiviti Princess I had visited Ovalau, Koro and Gau from May 22-25 giving free medical service to about 3000 people in dental, eye care and various medical treatment from medical specialists from New Zealand, Australia and Fiji.

The free medical services were provided in Levuka and Bureta in Ovalau, Nabasovi in Koro and Navukailagi in Gau.

The medical team was billeted and catered for on board while serving the people in the villages.

“The group was very impressed and it was the first time to see the actual need out in the maritime areas, and they are all looking forward to next year,” he said.

He said the visit to yasayasa o Moala would be around May next year the same time the medical team had visited the Lomaiviti group last month.

Mr Goundar said the construction of the wharf for the shipping firm in Tailevu north was on hold right now after the negotiation was conducted by the iTaukei Land Trust Board.

“It’s at a stand still right now,” he said.

He said he was puzzled with the events that led to the dilemma which could have been beneficial for all parties concerned.

“We’re looking at development for infrastructure in the area, boost in the economy and employment for the people in the area,” he said.
