Defending champions Team Auckland are on track to claim the Vodafone Kshatriya World Cup 2018 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

The New Zealand-based side won the Thakorlal Cup in 2002, 2009 and 2016.

Despite losing their first match to Brisbane Maroons/ Roar 1-0 on Thursday the side bounced back to thrash Ba 3-0 yesterday.

The side comprised a good mix of experienced and young players coached and managed by Prakash Lal, Chetan Solanki, Mitesh Killa, Kalpesh Bhikabhai and Prashant Kalyan.

There are 14 teams, including four competing in the veteran category. Fiji is represented by Nadi, Ba, Lautoka and Suva.

Nadi Kshatriya Seva Samaj, tournament hosting committee general secretary Bharat Kumar said, this is the eighth year of the bi-annual event since 2002.

“The event is for the Kshatriya Australasia countries and for the first time we are including a team from London,” he said.

“The tournament started in Brisbane and Kshatriya is part of the Gujerati society.”

Kumar thanked the naming rights sponsor Vodafone and major sponsor Jacks of Fiji.

The Kshatriya concept began in 1992 at Coffs Harbour, NSW with a friendly match between Sydney and Brisbane.
