The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto relayed two messages to the 842 Queen Victoria School cadets at the passing-out parade at Nukuvuto ground yesterday.

The first was for them to make a commitment that they would grow up to be young men who would protect and respect women and children.

“Your strong hand will be stretched out not to harm, but to help women and children,” he said.

“If you witness a girl or child being hurt, do not allow peer pressure to make you ignore it or even join in. Take the side of the girl that is being hurt. That is where a real man should stand.

“You are the future of the nation. You are the ones who will chart the continuing evolution of Fiji’s destiny.

“Make it a destiny where Fiji is more caring, respectful and protective of our women and children. That destiny starts with you now.”

The second message was to stay away from drugs.

“It is not good for you at any time of your life.”

He said the RFMF had a zero tolerance on drugs. Anyone who tested positive on drugs would be sent home and would be in their record.

As chief guest at the passing-out parade, he thanked the students, teachers and instructors for the wonderful display they made.

He also thanked the parents for allowing their children to take up the cadet course.

For the cadets, he urged them to be connected to the right people and also to respect all Fijians.

He urged them to work hard and give their school time their very best because one day their time as secondary school students would end.

“Nothing lasts forever. Your time as a student will one day end and you will not be able to come back and do it all over again. You have one shot at it so give it your best shot.”

The cadet companies were made up of Verata House, Rewa House, Bau House and Tovata House.
