‘Bu’ by machine

What next? How about a ready-to-drink coconut (bu) from a machine?

That’s what Fiji Sun managing editor digital Rosi Doviverata (pictured) found in China.

Our Ms Doviverata is amongst elite editors from around the world now there after being selected for a month-long Dongfang fellowship on media transformation.

Ms Doviverata paid for the bu from the machine using Alipay, the mobile payment platform established by internet guru Jack Ma’s Alibaba group.

“And the bu was nice and cool,” she said in a message back to headquarters in Suva.

The editors spent time at the Alibaba headquarters in Hangzhou city as part of their programme.

The Dongfang fellowship is run by China Daily – China’s biggest English-language newspaper – in conjunction with leading universities in Shanghai and Beijing. Ms Doviverata is the first from the Pacific Islands to be selected for it.

Hiring a relative

Grumblings in one of the provinces.

The board chairman of the business arm recently oversaw a consultancy recruitment.

Why the grumbling? It is alleged that the consultant recruited is a relative.

More will be heard of this, BTL was told.

Not the ticket

Some bus drivers still don’t carry with them disposable e-ticketing cards.

Just recently a family attended a school event. When returning home they found, when boarding the bus, there was not enough funds on their e-ticketing cards.

They asked for the disposable cards, but the driver had none and they were told to get off.

Can LTA step up spot checks on the buses?

Media moves

Media company has lost a number of its journalists.

What must be causing some internal concern, is that they include some it has invested in.

Wonder what’s up in their newsroom?
