RURAL CASH

Who says there is little cash in the rural areas. Last Friday, a public holiday, while many were enjoying their sports day, members of three villages attended a “soli” or fundraising and raised $25,000.

The money will go towards an investment and development projects.

RUGBY BEATS POLITICS

The Sitiveni Rabuka-Lynda Tabuya group should thank rugby for winning the battle for votes at the SODELPA annual general meeting at Namoli Village in Lautoka last Saturday.

Their opponents from Suva, Tailevu, Naitasiri and Rewa, Serua-Namosi and Nadroga could not mobilise enough support because many opted to watch top rugby games on that day.

In the Skipper Cup competition, the following games were being played: Namosi vs Navosa, Nadroga vs Rewa, Suva vs Nadi, Naitasiri vs Malolo and Tailevu was also in action in the Vanua Shield competition. In the evening, ANZ Stadium in Suva was packed as the Chiefs thrashed the Highlanders 45-22.

It came as no surprise that many rugby fans attended these games instead of going to Namoli Village for the AGM.

DAMAGE CONTROL

A National Federation Party official jumped into action as soon as he got wind that one of their provisional candidates has been arrested and in custody pending investigations into allegations of rape.

He rushed into the Totogo Police Station in Suva with a piece of paper containing the resignation of the provisional candidate who was required to sign it.

It’s what we call damage control. The suspect now becomes a former NFP provisional candidate.
