A letter writer has listed (from left) Semi Kunatani, Semi Radradra, Josua Tuisova and Eroni Sau as key players who should be included in the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Rugby World Cup squad.

The Opposition we need

Dharmendra Kumar, Suva

The only Opposition Member of Parliament who makes sense in response to the 2018-2019 National Budget seems to be Mr Aseri Radrodro. The difference between him and other Opposition members is that he is not wearing the negativity spectacles.

This is the type of Opposition we need. He gives Government the credit where credit is due and at the same time he does not hesitate to oppose Government policies he disagrees with and is willing to find an amicable solution without any preconceived ideas.

Common sense must prevail during debates rather than opposing all initiatives by the Government.

Rape mentality

Wise Muavono, Lautoka

Rape is a serious problem in our country that is continuously increasing and can be rated as one of the fastest growing crimes in the country.

Rape is not a crime that only hurts someone for a moment, but its shatters their entire life. This means that most victims never fully recover from being a victim of such a devastating act.

The majority of rape victims are under the age of 18 and it is absolutely sickening that men would take advantage of them.

In my opinion, the attitudes we possess and the behavior we exemplify create an atmosphere that tolerates and downplays rape. Many people love travelling to Fiji. However, the rape crisis here will profoundly change the country’s image.

Some of the horrendous news stories will soon have a disastrous effect on the tourist trade, and potentially decrease economic growth. This is bad news for us as we are heavily dependent on tourism.

It is never too late to save our beautiful country. To the FijiFirst Government, stern measures are  to be applied to stop this epidemic.

A must 7s team

Taitusi Sokiveta, Phoenix, Arizona

I believe we need players like Semi Kunatani, Semi Radradra, Josua Tuisova, Eroni Sau, Amenoni Nasilasila, Jerry Tuwai, Kolinio Nasoko, Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Jasa Veramalua if we are serious about winning the Rugby Sevens World Cup in San Francisco this month.

Include these players in the squad and we stand a chance to win back the Melrose Cup.

Overtime row

Amenatave Yaconisau, Delainavesi

It is hypocritical indeed if the SODELPA Party contemplates overtime pay for workers while it disallows the same for its own employees.

You have to follow the employment laws of this country under the Employment Relations Promulgation 2007, not make your own to suit yourself.

Indeed it ‘smacks of hypocrisy’ as Nemani Delaibatiki said in his analysis (FS 4/7).

Water carts

Shariff Shah, Savusavu

I am wondering why the Government cannot afford to invest in its own water carts?

I heard that some water cart companies are paid $450,000 per month, minimum. I just hope this trend stops!
