The widow of the late Ratu George Kadavulevu Cakobau Junior recalled her last moments with her husband who died in hospital on June 24, 2018.

Timaima Nakaukaucagi Cakobau, who declined to be photographed, said: “I miss my beloved and caring husband.”

She was speaking at their residence in Mokani Village in Tailevu yesterday.

Mrs Cakobau said she did not expect her husband’s passing away to be that quick.

She said he had died less than 24 hours after being admitted.

On that Sunday morning, Mrs Cakobau recalled Ratu George wanted a quick breakfast.

“I told him that breakfast was not yet ready but it would come.”

She said the doctor had told her to expect the unexpected.

Mrs Cakobau said her husand was giving her signals of his passing.

“I really did not take to heart the signals he was giving me and it really hurts,” she said

Every time she wiped his mouth he would look up and smile.

“I really miss those last smiles and I’ll treasure them.”

Together, they have four children one of the whom is Ratu Tui Cakobau, a chaplain in the Methodist Church in Fiji.

Ratu George she said had two children from his first marriage – Ratu Vuniani Cakobau and Ratu Cinavi Cakobau.

Meanwhile, relatives have already started gathering to pay their last respects at Mokani Village.

On July 9, Mrs Cakobau said they would move to Bau Island to prepare for the funeral.

The church service is on Wednesday followed by his last journey from the church to the sautabu where he would be laid to rest.

Mokani headman (turaganikoro) 57-year-old Josefa Ceinaturaga said that Ratu George was a faithful leader and usually supported the village and church work. Edited by Ranoba Baoa
