Yalaina Tubu, a student of Santa Maria Catholic College in New Zealand, is looking forward to play against Fijians of her age.

They will participate in the NEWWORLD IGA Suva Netball Association inter-confederacy tournament at the National Netball Centre, Suva, tomorrow.

The 12-year-old is part of the Revelation Sports and Recreation Inc, a Christian club- based in South Auckland and has paternal links to Naevuevu in Nadroga.

“We are here to play against the Fijian girls and also to experience the Fijian culture. It is very important to us as we don’t get this opportunity,”she said.

“This is our first ever tour to Fiji and we are very much looking forward to it.

“Many of us are visiting Fiji for the first time.”

The team comprised of Under-11, U12 and U14 grade players and will also play in Nadi, Lautoka and Sigatoka.

Team liaison officer Steven Smith said the tour group includes 38 children and 20 support staff and parents.

“The team represents players that come out of the greater Auckland area,” said Smith, a former Ba resident.

“The target is all about learning the Fijian experience. The composition of the team includes players of Samoan, Tongan, Fijian and Maori background.”
