The Minister for Defence, Ratu Inoke  Kubuabola, yesterday reminded 204 recruits of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ (RFMF) constitutional role.

While delivering his keynote address during the passing-out parade yesterday at the Force Training Group (FTG) in Nasinu, Ratu Inoke said: “In the 2013 Constitution, the RFMF has the overall responsibility to ensure at all times the security, defence and wellbeing of Fiji and all Fijians.

“As a soldier you need to embrace this constitutional obligation and your skills and abilities should align to this.”

He congratulated all the cadets and those who were presented with awards. He also commended the parade’s high standard display.

“Now that you have graduated your new journey will be a journey of sacrifice and commitment.  As members of the RFMF, your calling will not be easy while serving this nation,” the minister said.

“Your career will be defined by your commitment and by the standards you deliver. Understand that being a newly enlisted soldier means you must serve with dignity and honour – always.”

Ratu Inoke pointed out that 74 members of the recruits would undertake the Officer Cadet Training, while 45 would be absorbed with the Engineering Unit as part of the Trade Training School. The remaining 85 would be posted to the Territorial Force Brigade.

Now that they were part of the institution Ratu Inoke urged the recruits to remain firm, loyal, to uphold core values and prove the critics wrong.

Ratu Inoke also thanked the parents for allowing their children to go through the recruit training.

He also thanked the RFMF, the Commanding Officer and members of the Force Training Group who rallied behind the recruits to ensure they received the proper training.  Edited by Percy Kean
