A taxi driver charged with aggravated robbery was granted bail by the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Ritesh Ravi Prasad appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar. The State prosecutor told the court she needed 21 days to file the information and disclosures regarding the case and seven days for bail response because she received the bail application in the morning.

The defence lawyer told the court that the accused had applied for bail because he had a five-year-old son and wife who is unemployed and he was the sole breadwinner in the family.

The State prosecutor told the court that Prasad applied for a visa to travel to the United States and his passport was with the embassy. Justice Goundar told the accused to surrender his passport as soon as he received it from the embassy.

Prasad was granted bail on the surety of his two sureties and sum of $500 each bond.

He was told to reside with one of the surety in Nausori.

A stop departure order was also issued for Prasad.

Justice Goundar told the accused not to interfere with the prosecution witnesses and report to Nausori Police Station every Saturday between 6am and 6pm.

The matter was adjourned to August 6 for plea.
