One of Auckland’s netball clubs, Revelations Sports and Recreation Inc opted to compete in Fiji rather than the Gold Coast Netball Carnival in Australia. The teams are participating in today’s NEWWORLD IGA Suva Netball Association’s Inter-Confederacy tournament.

They were hosted to an afternoon tea by the New Zealand High Commissioner Jonathan Curr in his official residence yesterday.

Club director Dave Rewi said being a Christian club they were guided by the Holy Spirit which led them to Fiji.

Rewi said the experience has been great ever since they arrived on Wednesday and they are looking forward to see their teams which comprises of Under-11, U12 and U14 grade players.

“Our girls haven’t played against the Fiji players and experience that Fijian spark and that is what they are looking forward to tomorrow,” he said.

“Playing against Namaka Primary School on Thursday we could see a lot of potential in these Fijian players. The girls playing in our premier team have been with Revelations for many years and they normally play in Gold Coast where the bigger teams like South Africa and Australia are. We decided to come to Fiji, being a Christian club and that is where the spirit leads us. Though we have won many games in Gold Coast we believe coming to Fiji will be good for the players.”

Team’s liaison officer Steven Smith said the whole trip has been about cultural experience.

“On Thursday was the first time they played on a grass court and playing against the opposition who were bare foot and for our girls to be able to understand and appreciate what they have.

“Our girls are lucky that they are able to play regular competition back home, competition has been competitive and the experience has been overwhelming,” she added.
