An aspiring architect has urged people with suicidal tendencies to seek help with the problems they face.

Vilisi Nakete says suicide is never the answer to problems because no one is truly alone in this world.

It was this advocacy which led her to win the Princess category at the Digicel Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival in Labasa.

Vilisi dedicated the win to her family, friends and the people in her village.

The 12-year-old of Nakama Village said during the crowning at Subrail Park on Friday night said she was confident from the beginning of the carnival.

“Being the eldest of four siblings, daughter of a truck driver at Water Authority of Fiji and staying in a big village motivated me to participate and aim to win to make everyone proud,” Vilisi said.

“Competing among five contestants over one week has helped me to be a good speaker and to build on confidence.

I chose to advocate on suicide because it is a major problem in our society and schools.

“There are many reasons people commit suicide and unfortunately the exact reason is unknown to others at the time of the incident.”

Her message to young people is to love life.

“God has blessed us with one life to cherish, grow and share love with others,” the Year Seven student of Holy Family Primary School in Labasa said.

“Never choose to end your life over a problem or trouble.

“There is always help available and learn to face problems in life because you are not alone in this world.”
